China-based handset developer Xiaomi is all set to woo those who love selfies with their Redmi Y1 which comes with a decent 16MP selfie camera at a price of just Rs.8,999. The model will be available with two colour options - gold and dark grey.


As stated above, the major highlight of this phone is its selfie camera which is loaded with a couple of features like beautify, ƒ/2.0 large aperture, 76.4° wide-angle lens, selfie countdown, face recognition, selfie flash, and more. The camera supports 36 smart beauty profiles. The company claims the phone to support real-time beautify while making video calls.

The phone has a 13MP rear camera to satisfy one's photography enthusiasm. The primary camera comes with ƒ/2.2 aperture, PDAF technology, low light enhancement, HDR, Panorama, Burst mode, Face recognition and real-time filters. The camera supports 1080p/720p video at 30fps.

Redmi Y1 Features

Redmi Y1 comes with a 5.5 inch HD display (1280 x 720 resolution). With differences in RAM and internal memory, there are two variants viz. 3GB/32 GB and 4GB/64GB. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 Octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 505 graphics chip. The phone supports expandable storage (up to 128GB) via microSD card (dedicated slot).

The company claims its 3080mAh battery to deliver 32hrs of talk time, 10 hours of video playback and 12 hours of gaming. Measuring 153mm x 76.2mm x 7.7mm (Height x Width x Thickness), the phone weighs 153g.

The dual-SIM phone Redmi Y1 (nanoSIM+nanoSIM) supports 4G in only one SIM. Connectivity options include 4G, GSM B2/3/5/8, WCDMA B1/2/5/8, FDD-LTE B1/3/4/5/7/8/20, TDD-LTE B38/40, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2, and Bluetooth HID among others.

Sensors on the board include GPS/AGPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Infrared, Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Electronic compass, Fingerprint sensor and Hall sensor.



My verdict

With 16MP front camera, and decent primary camera, 4G support, etc.; I feel this phone is going to be a better competitor among the top phones under Rs.10,000. Share what you feel.
